CMEP Staff Travels to the Middle East:

During the month of May, several CMEP staff members were able to travel to the Middle East. Kyle Cristofalo (Senior Director of Advocacy and Government Relations) and Kevin Vollrath (Manager of Middle East Partnerships) travelled to Egypt for the Middle East Council of Churches General Assembly, where they were also able to speak with the His Holiness Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria of the Coptic Orthodox Church.

Rev. Dr. Mae Elise Cannon (Executive Director) has returned home from spending time in Israel, and Palestine. She and Vollrath also were able to visit Gaza for a few days. While in the region, Cannon spoke at Christ at the Checkpoint in Bethlehem.

We’ll be sharing more from their travels in the coming weeks. Be sure to follow us on Social Media to see the latest updates! @ChurchesForMEP

CMEP is Hiring!
Churches for Middle East Peace (CMEP) is seeking applicants for a Middle East Fellow. This unique fellowship experience is focused on advocacy based in the US and the Middle East. The fellowship lasts between 6-12 months and includes a few months (remote) work from the United States and three months on the ground in the Jerusalem/Bethlehem area of Israel/Palestine. Applicants will have the opportunity to live and work in Israel/Palestine, acquire deeper exposure to the realities on the ground, develop relationships with local religious leaders and organizations working towards a just peace to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and make meaningful contributions to CMEP’s advocacy efforts. Fellows are essential to our work and receive mentoring and valuable experience through their service.

We're also seeking applicants for the position of Ambassador Warren Clark Fellow, and summer or fall interns. Check out our website for more information on each of those.

Upcoming Webinar:
Join Churches for Middle East Peace on Thursday, June 23rd for the webinar: "Israel/Palestine and Apartheid: How Should the Church Respond?" We'll hear from guests Dr. Peter Makari, Hadar Suskin, and Dagwood Hammoudeh on questions such as: "As church bodies gather this summer with the question of Israel/Palestine and Apartheid on the agenda, what is the role of U.S. Christians in the conversation? How are we to respond as Christians? As citizens of a government that provides $3.8 billion dollars a year to Israel in military aid?"

Upcoming Webinar:
Join CMEP on June 30th for "American Complicity in the Israeli Occupation: A Conversation with Jim Zogby and Jeremy Ben-Ami." CMEP is honored to co-sponsor this conversation with J Street, the Arab American Institute, and Combatants for Peace.

Action Alert:
On June 1, 2022, a bi-partisan Yemen War Powers Resolution ( HJRes 87) was introduced by Reps. DeFazio, Jayapal, Mace, and Schiff, with 41 total cosponsors. As a War Powers Resolution, it will get a vote within 15 legislative days. Right now, over 21 million people in Yemen are in desperate need of humanitarian assistance. Instead of continuing to support the Saudi-led coalition, the Biden Administration must advance policies that will help bring stability and meet the humanitarian needs of the Yemeni people.

If you are not able take action and are registered to vote in the U.S., it is likely because your House member is already supporting this legislation. You can confirm whether your Representative is already a cosponsor by clicking here.
