On the afternoon of January 28th, a large group of masked men carrying sticks and iron bars attacked Daoud and Daher Nassar when Daoud was feeding the chickens. Dr. Mae Elise Cannon: "I am grateful to greet you in the New Year having spent nearly three weeks in Egypt. While I wasn’t able to travel to Palestine because of COVID closures, I was grateful to have the opportunity to meet with friends and church leaders from CMEP’s diverse ecumenical relations and member communions. Meetings included Anne Zaki of The Evangelical Theological Seminary in Cairo (ETSC); Rev. Dr. Andrea Zaki, Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services (CEOSS) Executive Director and President of the Protestant Churches in Egypt; and Bishop Yolios at the Coptic Orthodox Hanging Church in Old Cairo. CMEP remains committed to supporting the church in the Middle East and to promoting the sustainability of the Christian community in the Arab world. While in Egypt, I also met and had forthright discussions about human rights concerns with members of the Egyptian government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. One of our main concerns was the ongoing detention and pretrial arrest of Coptic Christian Activist Ramy Kamel. Upon my return back to the U.S., CMEP celebrated the news of his release. You can read more about that here." | | | | | | | | | | CMEP joins the Coptic Orthodox Church in the commemoration of Martyrs: His Eminence Archbishop Angaelos, Coptic Orthodox Archbishop of London, and Founder and Director of Refcemi (The Coptic Orthodox Office for Advocacy and Public Policy), invites you to attend an online seminar on 15 February 2021 18:00-19:00 GMT to mark Contemporary Martyrs Day.
