Churches for Middle East Peace (CMEP) will participate in the virtual Lott Carey Annual Session programming this August:

CMEP will present a two-part series offering an introduction to core issues of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict while elevating voices from the Holy Land. The second session will focus on what effective discipleship and advocacy look like in the United States with particular attention on holistic peacebuilding, humanitarian assistance, and human rights.

New Virtual Tour: 

Join CMEP and MEJDI Tours on September 29, 2021, at 11 am Eastern for a virtual tour. We'll travel via Zoom through the City of David, Silwan, and Sheikh Jarrah, starting with the relevant background and sharing the local narratives. This is an in-depth opportunity to view, learn, and discuss with your live guide. CMEP staff will be present to talk about current events and advocacy opportunities related to the Holy Land. 

International Religious Freedom Summit:

From July 13-15, CMEP ED Rev. Dr. Mae Elise Cannon and CMEP Senior Director of Advocacy and Government Relations attended the inaugural International Religious Freedom Summit an in-person convening in Washington, DC. CMEP was one of the official sponsors of the Summit. The bipartisan summit was chaired by former Ambassador Sam Brownback (Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom--Republican chair) and Katrina Lantos Swett (Democratic chair). Several CMEP affiliated leaders spoke at the Summit including Archbishop Vicken Aykazian (Armenian Church of America--Eastern) and Archbishop Elpidophoros (Greek Archdiocese of America). Rev. Dr. Cannon offered a prayer at a side event organized by In Defense of Christians. Additionally, CMEP staff were able to meet with several NGO and partner connections in DC throughout the week.

Hagia Sophia Remembrance Gathering:

CMEP's executive director Rev. Dr. Mae Elise Cannon had the privilege of being featured in leading a prayer among the heads of communion including His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophorous of the Greek Orthodox Diocese of North America, His Eminence, Metropolitan Joseph, Archbishop of New York and Metropolitan of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America, and His Eminence Archbishop Vicken Aykazian the Ecumenical Director and Diocesan Legate of the Diocese of the Armenian Church of America (Eastern) and member of CMEP board. The gathering was in lament of the one-year anniversary of the Hagia Sophia church in Istanbul being converted to a mosque.

Intern with CMEP:

We invite college students of all ages to apply to our internship program. CMEP’s interns are able to work with multiple staff members and gain exposure to working in a non-profit in Washington, D.C. Remote opportunities are available.
