The resolution calls for a limit on the sale of bombs, ammunition (including white phosphorus), and ammunition manufacturing capability. The act comes as Israel has strengthened its assault on Gaza and the West Bank, with an estimated death toll since October 7th, 2023 standing at 54,000 Palestinian men, women, and children. This joint statement urges governments to take immediate and decisive action to end Israel’s aid siege, open all land crossings, restore the full flow of humanitarian aid, and demand an immediate and permanent ceasefire. CMEP condemns the killings of Gazans seeking aid, of which the death toll now reaches 875. Immediate access to life-saving aid is imperative as children, the elderly, and the most vulnerable suffer from disease, malnutrition, and starvation. The ongoing, deliberate starvation of civilians amounts to an international war crime and elicits global moral outrage. This must end now. | | | | | July 23, 2025: CMEP Executive Director and Communication Coordinator Publish Article on Taybeh Attacks In this essay, CMEP Executive Director Rev. Dr. Mae Elise Cannon and Communication Coordinator Christopher Huth connect the recent settler attack on the historically Christian village of Taybeh to the dwindling Christian presence in the Holy Land today. Settler attacks on Christian communities have only grown, ranging from assaults on churches and monasteries to family farms and homes. The essay concludes with an urgent plea to Christians around the world to act and pray for the birthplace of Christianity and the people who live there. | | | | | Join Us in Prayer for Shadi Khoury Churches for Middle East Peace (CMEP) invites all to join us in prayer for Shadi Khoury, an unjustly detained Palestinian Christian student. Shadi Khoury's only alleged crime is hitting a car with his finger, however, he has been tied up in lengthy court cases and jail sentences for over 3 years. CMEP strongly condemns the detention and prosecution of all held unjustly. Shadi Khoury's next court date is September 8. | | | | | | Peace and Justice in the Middle East: a Christian Perspective August 3 In a time of violence and pain in Gaza, Israel, and the West Bank, this session provides attendees the opportunity to discuss what it means to answer our faithful call to advocate for sustainable, just peace in the Middle East. Especially in these divisive times, understanding the geopolitics, social considerations, and other aspects of the conflict demands that we, as people of faith, look beyond the headlines into the daily realities of people living on the ground. Join CMEP Executive Director Rev. Dr. Mae Elise Cannon on August 3rd in Washington, DC, to learn what it means for us as individuals and the global church to pursue peace while also advocating for justice in Israel/Palestine and beyond. | | | | | Church at the Crossroads September 11-13 Join Churches for Middle East Peace (CMEP) and faithful witnesses from across the country for Church at the Crossroads, a national gathering of Christians who recognize that the church stands at a defining moment–Jesus is urgently calling us back to the narrow way of the cross. As violence escalates in Israel and Palestine, and some in the Church use Scripture to justify war, occupation, or silence, we must ask: Have we traded the gospel of peace for the false promises of security and comfort? Rooted in Scripture and led by Palestinian Christian leaders, including CMEP executive director, Rev. Dr. Mae Elise Cannon—alongside pastors and peacemakers from across North America—this conference invites American Christians to engage in honest reckoning, prophetic reflection, and faithful action. Through worship, prayer, teaching, and fellowship, we are called to repentance, renewal, and courageous discipleship. This is a space to confront harmful theologies, rediscover the gospel of the Kingdom, and stand with all who seek justice in the land. | | | | | August 14: Those Who Sow in Tears, NEME Webinar In our current climate, we can find ourselves too quick to ‘otherize’ or ‘dehumanize,' especially in contexts of loss. WHO operations compromised following attacks on warehouse and facility sheltering staff and families in Deir al Balah, Gaza World Health Organization "WHO condemns in the strongest terms the attacks on a building housing WHO staff in Deir al Balah in Gaza, the mistreatment of those sheltering there, and the destruction of its main warehouse. Following intensified hostilities in Deir al Balah after the latest evacuation order issued by Israeli military, the WHO staff residence was attacked three times today.
